Yaoi manga (also called Boys Love or BL) is a genre of Japanese manga and comics that focuses on romantic and sometimes sexual relationships between male characters. Yaoi vs BL vs Shounen-ai: What's the Difference?

What Is GL Manga?

What Is Omegaverse?
Omegaverse is one of the most popular sub-genres in BL manga. It's a speculative fiction setting where society is divided into biological hierarchies: Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. The genre originated in Western fan fiction and was enthusiastically adopted by Japanese BL manga artists.

- Slow burn — The romance develops gradually over many chapters — frustrating and deeply satisfying
- Age gap — A significant age difference between the main pair, often with mentorship dynamics
- Office romance — Workplace settings with the tension of professional and personal feelings mixing
- Yakuza / underworld — Dark, intense stories set in criminal worlds (think Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai)
- Childhood friends to lovers — The most bittersweet of tropes, years of history suddenly becoming something more
Where to Start: Beginner-Friendly BL Manga
